When I had my first online business as a service provider, I charged my clients by the hour and to be honest it was pittance.
I would do my invoicing at the end of the month and think …
‘Jeez, is that all i’m charging, damn!’
But I couldn’t work out how I could scale my business, I couldn’t work out how I could create a service package or offering that would be truly beneficial to my clients but also allow me to scale and create additional income streams.
So how do you create service packages and increase your rates?
In the end, I buckled down and created a package that was one flat fee for my services. So no matter how long it took me to complete the job that was the price I was going to charge. This is how I did it:
- I worked out the number of hours it would take me to complete the job (at my existing rate of $50 – eek!)
- Times that total by 3 and then took 15% off the final figure
And that was it!
Most coaches and service providers are undercharging and should be charging between $100 – $200+ per hour. I invite you to do this simple calculation and see what you come up with.
I have to say that this wasn’t easy and it made me physically sick when I told my existing clients that I was changing my pricing structure and I actually lost a few clients as well because those clients just couldn’t see the value of what I was offering because hourly rate more than doubled – oh well, hey ho!
